APK Mods FAQ

This APK Mods FAQ answers the questions we hear most often — about downloading APK and MOD APK files, installing XAPK packages, checking a file before you trust it, developer accounts, and asking us to remove a file. Each answer is short; where a topic needs more space, we link to a full guide.

APK Mods is a free Android download site for apps and games, with both original files and clearly labelled MOD files. If you are new here, start with the MOD APK guide and our install guide. If your question is not answered below, you can reach us through the contact page.

Quick facts

The table below sums up the points people ask about most, before the full answers.

A note on honesty: we do not claim that any file is “100% safe”. MOD files in particular are made by people who are not the original developers. We show the facts we can read from each file so that you can decide for yourself, and we act on reports.

Before you download anything

Three short habits answer many questions before they come up:

  • Check your phone. Note your Android version and free storage, then compare them with the minimum Android version and size on the download page.
  • Check the file. Look at the label, the signing certificate and the permissions. Read our guide on whether a MOD APK is safe if you are unsure.
  • Check your connection. Use Wi-Fi for large games so you do not use up your mobile data pack.

Downloads

Is APK Mods free to use?

Yes. Browsing, searching and downloading files on APK Mods is free. You do not need an account to download. An account is only needed if you want to upload files as a developer.

What is the difference between the MOD and Original labels?

Original means the file is the developer’s own build and is signed with the same certificate as earlier versions of that app. MOD means a third party changed the app; the download page lists what was changed. Both labels are shown before you download.

Why is my download slow or stopping?

Large games can be over 1 GB. A weak mobile signal, a data pack that has run out or the phone going to sleep can stop the download. Use Wi-Fi for big files, keep the screen on and make sure you have enough free storage before you start.

Can I download an older version of an app?

Yes, when the uploader has kept it. Each app page has a version history with the date, size and minimum Android version of every file. Older versions can help on older phones or when a new update has a bug, but they miss security fixes, so use the newest version that works well on your phone.

Installing

How do I install an APK file?

Open the downloaded file from your browser or file manager, allow that app to install unknown apps when Android asks, then tap Install. Our install guide has step-by-step help for Chrome, Files by Google and phones from Xiaomi, Samsung, Realme, Oppo and Vivo.

How do I install an XAPK, APKS or APKM file?

These are split packages that hold several APK files and sometimes OBB game data. Android cannot open them by tapping, so you need a split-APK installer app that supports the format. The installer picks the right parts for your phone and installs them together.

Why does it say App not installed?

Common causes are a signature conflict with an app already on your phone, low storage, a file made for a newer Android version or a different processor, or a damaged download. Uninstall the older copy after backing up, free some space and download the file again.

Safety

Are the files on APK Mods safe?

We cannot promise any file is completely safe, especially MOD files, which are changed by third parties. What we do is show the file SHA-256, the signing certificate, the permissions count, a VirusTotal link and the uploader on every download page, so you can check a file before installing it.

How do I check a file before installing it?

Compare the SHA-256 of your download with the one on the page, check whether the signing certificate matches earlier versions, look up the hash on VirusTotal and read the permissions. A simple game should not need SMS, contacts or accessibility access.

Should I use modded banking or payment apps?

No. Never install a modded banking, UPI, wallet or shopping app, and never enter your UPI PIN, OTP, card number or bank password into any app from outside the Play Store. Use Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay and bank apps only from the official store.

MOD files

What is a MOD APK?

A MOD APK is an Android app that someone other than the developer has changed, for example to unlock premium features, remove ads or change in-game values. It is rebuilt and signed with a new key, so it is not the official app.

Why can’t I update a MOD from the Play Store?

A mod is signed with a different key from the original. Android only installs updates signed with the same key, so the Play Store update cannot replace the mod. You need a newer mod, or you must uninstall it and install the original app again.

Will I get banned for using a MOD in an online game?

You might. Online games check for changed files and impossible values, and bans can be permanent. Use mods only in offline games and never with an account you care about. Bans can arrive weeks later, and any purchases on that account are usually lost with it.

Accounts and developers

Do I need an account to download files?

No. Accounts are for developers and uploaders. Anyone can browse, search and download without signing up, and we do not ask for a phone number or payment details to download.

How do I become a developer on APK Mods?

Register with your name, email and a password, log in, then open the developer console and create a developer profile. After that you can import an app from its Google Play link or add an app manually, and upload files.

What can I upload, and how big can files be?

You can upload .apk, .xapk, .apks and .apkm files up to 2 GB each. We read the package name, version, minimum Android version, architectures and signing certificate automatically.

Why is my upload still pending?

First uploads from new developers are reviewed by a person before they are published. Developers with a clean history can become trusted, and their uploads publish as soon as processing finishes. If a file is rejected, the console shows the reason.

Removal and DMCA

I own an app on your site. How do I get it removed?

Send a removal request with the app page link, proof that you own the rights and your contact details to [email protected], or use the report form with the DMCA option. We remove valid requests within 72 hours.

How do I report a harmful or wrong file?

Use the report form and choose the reason, such as malware, wrong label, broken file or copyright. Include the page link and what you noticed, for example a VirusTotal result, a permission that looks wrong or a label that does not match the file. We review every report and may remove or relabel the file.

Can I remove a file I uploaded myself?

Yes. Developers can unpublish a single version or remove a whole app from the developer console at any time.

Still need help?

For a problem with a particular file, the fastest route is the report form, because it links your message to the right page. For anything else, write to us using the details on our contact page. Developers can find more about uploads, review states and the console on the developer program page, and rights holders can read the full removal process.

We update this APK Mods FAQ when new questions come up often, so check back if something changes on the site.
